ACJMH is a growing organization that relies fully on volunteers to build our infrastructure and advance our mission. As a member of the Selection Committee, you would be responsible for helping make decisions to carry out our mission successfully and sustainably. Responsibilities will include attendance and participation at regular Selection Committee meetings (approximately 1-2 hours per month), reviewing applications, speaking with applicants to gather additional information, and networking with others who may be interested in supporting Agave Center. Job Description:
The purpose of the Agave Center for Justice in Mental Health (ACJMH) Selection Committee shall be to review applications in a timely manner, request additional information from applicants via interview, and make decisions about who should receive financial assistance for which mental health services and/or supports. Each member of the selection committee will play a unique role in assessing applicants’ needs alongside the ability of ACJMH to meet those needs. Selection committee members will also manage referrals to ensure that applicants are spread out over a variety of providers and that ACJMH is supporting providers and applicants from historically vulnerable and/or underserved populations whenever possible. The selection committee will also work to ensure that providers are equally distributed across multiple practices and contexts to avoid any conflict of interests. The ideal selection committee member will have experience as a client or as a provider of mental health services, and will be able to consider applications from a place of personal experience.
Expectations:
Review and manage the application process.
Conduct interviews with applicants to learn more about their unique situation and needs.
Make decisions based on need, prioritizing both applicants and providers from marginalized backgrounds whenever possible.
Ensure that finances are being distributed to a variety of providers and applicants and that no conflict of interest is occurring (if there is a conflict of interest such as working at a company associated with an applicant, the selection committee member should recuse them/him/herself from the discussion and the vote).
Share the work of Agave Center with others who might be interested.
Be available for monthly meetings with the selection committee, as well as meetings with the board and/or other volunteers as needed.
